THE Giant of miniature roses

100 years and many mini-roses later: Happy 100 birthdays to Mr. Ralph Moore of Sequoia Nursery in rose-friendly Visalia, CA! In the late 70s, I lived down the street from him, briefly; as a teen, I did not yet respond to the allure of gardening. Moore pioneered and developed the branch of rosarian-wonder  consumed with miniature flowers and plants. However, Moore fussed with larger roses, too. Here is the astonishinglybeautiful Rainforest. rainforest.jpg Another unusual color is CafĂ© Ole. This buff flower would be charming in a pot on a semi -shaded patio. Place the pot so that the flowers can turn their faces to the sun. The understated color would look best at dusk, against green foliage and the widening miracle of twilight. The color reminds me of Cosmic Lattecafeole.jpg You may recall the kafuffle (this spelling courtesy of MS Spell check; deserves some word research!) at NASA a few years back when Hubble images suggested the color of the universe was a coolly-alluring turquoise.*  Days later, the color mismatch was noted. The revised beige was truly bland. However, a name contest helped us all through the disappointment. Read the scientific account about selecting a "color" to fit the math that describes the universe. Karl Glazebrook & Ivan Baldry's piece is clear for an interested lay audience. (you can read this piece, having been primed by the Answers piece about 'cosmic latte,' linked above.) One way to make peace with the beige color-chip disappointment would be to grow Cafe Ole and learn to love the charm of

and other words that spike the wanness of beige with meaning.  The other trick is to invoke this chestnut:  A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.  Juliet spoke this of Romeo just before the balcony scene takes off.

Well I have begun my garden journal and I look forward to input. I have posted pictures of the work to date. I am challenged by space, light, kids and a dog.

Love the pictures of the roses, I admire their beauty but do not have the patience to grow roses.

Any feedback or suggestions on the gardens is welcome, Pictures are in reverse order, from most recent back. There are a few pictures of what I started with. Also looking for front door colour suggestions - leaning towards a mossy green colour.
